V&A Museum: Ceramics Galleries Bridge
This jewel-like bridge plays an important role in the ongoing development of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. The bridge provides a stepped escape route from the newly refurbished Ceramics Gallery across an external space to the adjacent Secretariat block. This functional requirement has been beautifully resolved with a dramatic and elegantly detailed structural form. A simple folded, perforated stair plate is supported between angled portal frames arranged at regular centres. Shelter is provided overhead by an integrated glazed canopy and the whole composition is celebrated at night by an illuminated wall which will be visible from Cromwell Road outside the Museum.
