Bristol Metropolitan College
This community college, part of the wider Bristol BSF initiative, has strong links to Wilkinson Eyre’s designs developed for the DfES Exemplar schools scheme in 2003. At Bristol Metropolitan, a series of learning clusters are linked by an internal street and complemented by central facilities blocks. The covered street separates the teaching blocks and provides the main focus and hub within the school, combining the key circulation, social and dining spaces, helping to maximise opportunities for learning beyond the classroom. The architectural composition of the scheme promotes - both physically and visually - the school’s policy of inclusion, reinforcing the close relationship between it and the community. The school opened in April 2008, with capacity for 1,080 pupils.
