09.03.20 | Eddington, Lot 1: North West Cambridge Highly Commended at the Civic Trust Awards 2020

Eddington, Lot 1: North West Cambridge, a WilkinsonEyre key worker housing project in collaboration with Mole Architects, has been highly Commended by the Civic Trust Awards 2020.

WilkinsonEyre has been working on the first phase of the new development for North West Cambridge, having also been a part of the masterplanning team. The North West Cambridge Development – known as Eddington- is one of the most significant capital projects the University of Cambridge has undertaken and forms a major urban extension to the city of Cambridge. The development has delivered affordable housing for University staff, as well as postgraduate students and local people, research buildings and a plethora of community facilities.

Lot 1 is a mixed-use component at the heart of the scheme including a 117 Key Worker homes, a Foodstore, Primary Healthcare Centre, Estate Office and an Energy Centre serving the entire Masterplan. The project has been sustainability driven throughout with all residential units designed to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 5 standards and all non-residential areas built to BREEAM Excellent.

Selected from 250 entries, the scheme has been described by the judges as “a valuable contribution to the development of new sustainable urban and suburban typologies and strategies for the extension of our towns and cities.”
