Woodberry Down Regeneration
This development is sited in a prominent location adjacent on the edge of the New River in north London. Two towers are positioned on either side of the approach road to form a gateway to this major regeneration area. Environmental considerations helped to generate the form and orientation of the towers in order to maximise exposure to natural daylight - and therefore minimising the amount of energy needed to heat the internal spaces. Further environmental control is achieved through a sophisticated shuttering system which creates visual interest and patterning on the facade as the shutters are moved, opened and closed. The topography of the site is used to create a sheltered and south facing external space at the base of the towers, which could be used for public events or simply enjoying new views of the nearby river and reservoir.
