Westown is the new urban core of Sheikh Zayed City, one of the two major mixed-use expansions outside Cairo. Following our designs for the western perimeter blocks, Wilkinson Eyre was commissioned to work on the mixed use sub-masterplan and designs for the Eastern Block 44, comprising 11 buildings for office, retail, hotel and apartments. Our proposals are for a vibrant environment orientated towards an internal public garden which is extensively planted and shaded with trellises and and screens. A dramatically terraced building at the heart of The Polygon including a health club and restaurant gives further focus, and promotes wider use of outdoor space for work and repose. Shaded alleys and narrowed bases to the perimeter buildings give increased visibility to the garden from the outside streets.
