Queen Mary, University of London: Humanities Building
Wilkinson Eyre were appointed in 2006 for the design of this new Humanities Building for Queen Mary, part of the University of London. The new building forms part of the college’s ongoing development programme, and will provide a new humanities building to enhance the existing campus on Mile End Road. The building will accommodate the entire History Department along with additional learning space that will be centrally bookable for other departments. Located on the main road, it will provide the School of Humanities with distinctive public face on a major arterial route into central London, the facade treatment developed in conjunction with artist Jacqueline Poncelet. The building also incorporates a variety of innovative sustainability measures, including ground source heat pumps for the generation of renewable energy.
