Oman Botanic Garden
Wilkinson Eyre were shortlisted from an international long-list of architects to prepare a concept design for this new Botanic Garden. Located on a desert site, the objective was to create a series of climate zones, each of which would showcase local flora, which would eventually create a cultural and environmental legacy for the region. Our approach was to work closely with the site topography, orientation and geology to create a garden which grew and developed as naturally as possible over the long term, irrigated from a watercourse which followed a single contour around the site. In order to create the unique conditions required from one particular climate zone, a highly innovative leaf structure was proposed to apparently float from the site s one small hill, enclosing a steaming cloud forest.
