Maggie's Centre

Maggie's is an innovative charity that provides emotional and practical support to anyone who has, or has had, cancer. The programme of help provided from each of its centres works as well as it does because of the stimulating and uplifting environment it takes place in. Each centre is located close to a hospital, but offers a very different atmosphere; the buildings being designed on a domestic scale with an open plan kitchen as its ‘heart’ space. Wilkinson Eyre Architects was commissioned by Maggie's to develop a design for its centre in Oxford in early 2006. In response to the wooded landscape, our concept is based around a treehouse, supported on piloti with its elevations faceted to maximise the relationship between inside and outside space.
