Huang Gang Towers

The key challenge in the design of this 322,000sqm commercial scheme in one of China’s most rapidly growing cities was to create two very different space types within the ‘signature’ form of twin towers. One tower contains bespoke space to accommodate high quality offices, serviced apartments and a hotel, whilst the other is intended to achieve maximum efficiency and flexibility in its speculative office space. Each tower is an extruded square, the structure of which is based around a core and outriggers to each corner of the building. Extensive modelling enabled the design team to refine the form of the towers, the east and west facades of which have diagonally ‘creased’ elevations. The defining characteristic of the development is the single façade plane which wraps the external faces of the site in a manner reflective of traditional Chinese walled cities.
