Exeter Princesshay
Wilkinson Eyre designed a major component of this retailed based mixed-use development in Exeter’s historic city centre. The design reflects a diversity of uses (including residential, retail and amenity) and has evolved through a contextual approach which responds to the strictly-planned post-war streetscape, and the cathedral and medieval city beyond. Arranged along the curve of a sloping street, our buildings form the outer edge of the site and provide the new development with its primary external face. They are arranged around a new civic space which has the bastion of the old city wall as its centrepiece. Our part of the scheme is anchored by two elements which break the archetypical form for their building type – a multi-storey carpark cloaked in woven stainless steel and a retail building featuring a dramatic glazed elliptical drum.
