East London Line

The East London Line Project is a £1billion+ initiative to create a new overground railway running partly along the existing line of the former London Underground’s East London Line and extending it north and southwards. The route runs through a densely populated area of East London and will provide a medium capacity system metro service with new rolling stock. The route will form part of the TfL London Overground Orbital Network as well as serving the 2012 London Olympics. Wilkinson Eyre acted as consultant to Mott MacDonald, TfL’s technical advisors, for the design of two new stations at Shoreditch High Street & Hoxton on the northern section, a new 4-road train maintenance depot at New Cross Gate on the southern section and common station lighting and canopy structures along the route. The railway will become operational to passengers in June 2010.
