Cabot Circus

The Cabot Circus car park is part of a £600m retail redevelopment of Bristol’s Broadmead area. The main building is a £22m, 2,616 space multistorey car park. It is one of the largest urban car parks in Europe with 9 floors over 70,000sqm served by two external one-way traffic flow spiral ramps and a third internal exit ramp system. The vast construction is integrated into the urban context through the expression of the building form as a composition of discreet elements. The various functions of the building (including residential units and amenities) are expressed as related but distinct forms, breaking down the mass of the overall development. A dramatic 9-storey void runs between two of these forms, creating a natural pedestrian route which continues as a bridge across the adjacent road and links the scheme to the adjacent retail development.
