Stafford Critchlow, Director

BA (Hons) BArch (Hons) RIBA FRSA

Stafford Critchlow has led projects across a number of sectors including cultural, research and commercial buildings. In 2003, Stafford applied his varied experience to the Schools for the Future (DfES) exemplar design initiative, in which WilkinsonEyre devised its modular kit of parts approach that has been successfully applied to a number of schools in the UK.

More recently, he has worked on numerous projects for leading universities: his portfolio includes a new Department of Earth Sciences for the University of Oxford and the Forum at the University of Exeter, which was awarded Best Higher Education Building at the World Architecture Festival 2013. As well as designing new buildings he is interested in the juxtaposition of new buildings, or elements of new building, with older structures (including listed buildings) and the contextual richness this can provide.

Stafford's work is consistently recognised for exemplifying sustainable, high-quality, well-planned development of all types and scales and was previously selected for the AJ ’40 under 40’ group show at the V&A Museum. He is a member of the Design: South East and Islington design review panels and a trustee of the Higher Education Design Quality Forum (HEDQF). He previously sat on the CABE school design panel and the RIBA Education Committee.
