The balance of art and technology in Wilkinson Eyre’s work, applied over a diverse portfolio, originally drew Paul Conibere to the practice. ‘There’s a thoroughness in our design approach which enables us to achieve a simplicity of concept, without a slavishness to any kind of aesthetic dogma. This is at its best when an apparently inevitable, though often hard won, design solution presents itself. It is this process of investigation and discovery that really appeals.’ Paul’s own experience ranges across a number of projects with very different programmes, many in historic contexts. ‘I like the way that a sensitive context can be a point of departure for a design, though not in the most obvious sense. The process of experimentation and consultation required to steer these projects through planning requires a responsive and careful manner, a real sensitivity.’
