Matthew Potter brings his experience working in a number of smaller, experimental practices
to Wilkinson Eyre. 'When I moved here it was a logical step - I had a range of experience working on
small, highly-designed 'things' but wanted to move up a scale and work on more substantial projects.
As well as the portfolio, I was attracted to the practice's interest in developing a very refined
architecture, one which doesn't conceal its engineering.' Matthew is particularly interested in
using computer-generated geometry in the design process - both as a logical approach to problem-solving,
but also as a tool for creating beautiful, organic solutions. 'Maths can help to establish a basic
rationale for a building, simplifying it to improve on buildability and cost efficiency but also
informing its aesthetic and 'rhythm'. We're now able to use software to sketch and design in 3D,
creating extraordinary shapes with an underlying and definable logic.’
