When Keith Bownlie joined Wilkinson Eyre the practice already had a distinctive approach. 'I saw there was an opportunity to develop with the practice. I'm interested in rigour, and there is that here. There's a diversity too – we're not tied to any particular doctrine or style. Our approach isn't simply bound to a connection between architecture and engineering; instead it's about an inclusive process.' The idea of placemaking is of particular interest. 'Our approach transcends building type – it's about taking a natural interest in place and form, and developing an appropriate reaction. Our architecture is defined by its context but also itself.'
