The distinctiveness of Wilkinson Eyre’s work appealed to Chris Donoghue when he joined
the practice. ‘There is a sophistication in the way we approach design, which stems from a
rigorous examination of context, coupled with a freedom to explore succinct conceptual solutions
from project inception right through to completion. Across all the practice’s projects there’s a
real commitment to the design intent. The clarity of the original concept sketch is always maintained,
through peer review and director involvement.’ Chris brings a creative background at the Royal College
of Art to his architectural work. ‘The school is a real melting pot for creativity, with work across
a multitude of design disciplines actively encouraged. This experimentation helps me visualise
objects and spaces three dimensionally in a way which is free of the conventional parameters
of architectural design. For me, great buildings rely on an imaginative design process which
strives to distil spatial concepts into built form.’
