One Queensbridge receives conditional planning approval

WilkinsonEyre’s One Queensbridge in Melbourne, Australia has been granted conditional planning approval. The winning design was selected following an international design competition in October 2015, organised by the joint venture client Crown Resorts Limited and Schiavello Group.

The proposed new development, located in Melbourne’s Southbank, will comprise a 388-room luxury six-star hotel and approximately 700 apartments, incorporating a publicly accessible restaurant and lounge located at the top of the 90 storey tower.

WilkinsonEyre’s elegant solution for One Queensbridge is created by interlocking three plectrum shapes to provide a sculptural composition.

The tapering forms allow the tower to read as a beautiful object with a unique identity, contrasting against the more rigid forms of the adjacent buildings.

A key component of the design is a new pedestrian link bridge that will provide hotel guests with allweather access from the lobby of the new hotel to the Crown Melbourne integrated resort.

As a condition of the approval, Crown and Schiavello have also agreed to invest up to $100 million in significant tourism and public realm amenities that will benefit the Southbank Precinct.
